Morphological evolution of Ba{[NO.sub.3]}[.sub.2] supported on [alpha]-[Al.sub.2][O.sub.3] (0001): An in situ TEM study
Article Abstract:
The structural and morphological features of Ba{[NO.sub.3]}[.sub.2] as well as the formation of BaO from Ba{[NO.sub.3]}[.sub.2] during the thermal release of [NO.sub.x] was investigated by choosing a model system of Ba{[NO.sub.3]}[.sub.2] supported on [alpha]-[Al.sub.2][O.sub.3]. At high temperature annealing, the single crystal Ba{[NO.sub.3]}[.sub.2] particles decompose to form multiple BaO particles, clustered together to maintain morphology of the parent Ba{[NO.sub.3]}[.sub.2].

Heterolytic splitting of [H.sub.2] and C[H.sub.4] on [gamma]-alumina as a structural probe for defect sites
Article Abstract:
A combined experiment-theory approach is used to better understand the reactivity of the [gamma]-alumina surfaces towards the [H.sub.2] and C[H.sub.4] chemical probes. The reaction of [H.sub.2] on defect sites occurs at low temperature on several types of Al atoms at low coordination numbers, whereas C[H.sub.4] reacts selectively on the more reactive [Al.sub.III] sites to form the corresponding [Al.sub.IV]-C[H.sub.3].
